Feel the power overflowing in the sacred place of healing and recharge your energy

A corner written by Yumiko Itakura, a travel and spa journalist who covers hotel spas around the world and continues to experience the roots of health and beauty in each region.
This year, each month, we will focus on one region in Japan and unravel the wellness methods rooted in that region, such as “grandma's bag of wisdom” from hot springs, spa treatments, cultural experiences, and more.
Why don't you travel Japan together while exploring the local health methods, healing, and nutritious foods?

This time, I would like to talk about "Halekulani Okinawa" located on the main island of Okinawa Prefecture.

Enveloped in a pure atmosphere, it truly is a “house worthy of heaven.”

Blessed with a mild climate and great nature, Okinawa is known around the world as an area where many people live long and healthy lives. Among the resort hotels on the main island, Halekulani Okinawa in Onna Village offers a particularly peaceful feeling.
In July 2019, it opened as the second luxury resort "Halekulani" in Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii on a beautiful coastline with a total length of 1.7 km in Okinawa Kaigan Quasi-National Park.
Since then, the elegant hotel, which combines traditional Hawaiian hospitality and Okinawan culture, has become a sacred place for many people to relax.

There are five pools on the premises, including the Orchid Pool, which symbolizes Halekulani, and you can enjoy the sea with different expressions in the morning, day and night.
If you visit the Ocean Terrace Pool in the evening, you will be impressed by the breathtakingly beautiful sunset.

If you want to enjoy dishes made with healthy Okinawan ingredients, go to the Japanese restaurant AOMI. You can enjoy Okinawan Agu pork shabu-shabu and nutritious vegetable dishes.

Enjoy the wisdom of health passed down in Okinawa and Hawaii

Arrive at the spa 1 hour before your treatment reservation and enjoy the natural hot springs. The weakly alkaline simple spring water is light and makes your skin smooth.
At the spa, you can experience a menu that combines the healing spirit of two lands, Hawaii and Okinawa, where the spirit of healing has been passed down since ancient times.
What you should experience is the signature "rejuvenation" associated with Okinawa, the island of longevity.

Since the days of the Ryukyu dynasty, warm herbal balls containing getto (shell ginger) and fuuchiba (Okinawan mugwort), which have been popular for their ability to maintain mental and physical health, are used to warm the whole body and promote metabolism. Oil massage relieves the stiffness of the deep part of the body with firm pressure.
You can choose from three types of oil, but if you want to feel the power of Okinawa, it is better to choose a blend of getto (shell ginger), kabuchi (a native Okinawan mandarin orange), and ylang-ylang.

We also recommend “Hawaiian Foot Therapy”.
After cleansing your feet with a scrub from Hawaii-born organic cosmetic brand "Ola", massage with oil.
The soles of the feet are stimulated using guava tree sticks, which are known for their smooth feel and are associated with Hawaii and Okinawa.
After the treatment, you will feel a surge of vitality.

summary

Since ancient times, in Okinawa, we have used abundant medicinal herbs and herbs that grow naturally in our daily meals and to improve our health. The word "nuchigusui", which is often heard in this area, means things that make the heart feel relieved, such as a mother's love, food, and people's compassion.

In spring, when new things start, you can encounter excitement, but on the other hand, there will be many situations where you will continue to be nervous. If you feel tired of the dizzying changes, go to Okinawa.
How about taking in the healthy energy of this area through meals and treatments and cultivating your spirit?
