Yumie Kazama × Miho Arai | Facing aging with “personality”

At Lypo-C, April 4th (Sea Sea) is commemorating “Vitamin C Day” and is holding a “Well-being-Meet your ideal self-” contest.
As special judges, stylist Yumie Kazama and Miho Arai, representative of PR company Lacalpe, are participating.

In commemoration of this, we present a special talk between Yumie Kazama and Miho Arai!
This time it's [Part 2]. (Click here for Part 1 >>)

We asked them to talk about how they deal with aging in their 50s and what they think of now.

Yumie Kazama
Stylist and fashion director. Active in many women's fashion magazines, and in recent years has been active as a plant therapist and a medical phytotherapist certified by the French Society for the Promotion of Plant Therapy.

Miho Arai
Representative of "La Calpe", a PR company specializing in natural and organic life. He has a deep knowledge of phytotherapy and medicinal foods, and proposes a natural and organic life that is friendly to people and the environment.

I don't want to go back to the past, I like who I am now

─ Mr. Kazama is in his 50s, and Mr. Arai will soon be in his 50s.
What are your thoughts on "getting old"?

Kazama: I've never paid much attention to my age, but recently, one of the things that bothers me is "presbyopia."
I didn't work on a computer in my life, so my presbyopia was slow, but it's hard to get used to reading glasses.

A lot of changes have happened to your body, but what if a witch appeared in front of you and said, "I'll take you back to the old days. How old do you want to be?"
I think the answer would be, "No, thank you."

There are many things to worry about from the perspective of "aging", but thankfully, I feel good about who I am now.
After all, even though I've experienced so many things and am here now, it's like going back to the beginning (laughs).

Arai: I don't want to go back to the past either.

However, what I think about age is that my excitement is decreasing.

The sequel to "Sex and the City" was released not long ago, but it's about the same age as us, around the age of 50.
The drama depicts the loss of a partner, the pain in the lower back that makes it impossible to walk, and other episodes that make you feel old. I was looking for a wonderful lifestyle and love like the old days...

Personally, as I get older, my daily life becomes less exciting, so I want to take care of that.

Kazama As I get older, I tend to go in the direction of "comfortable/comfortable", but I'm really fighting against that (laughs).
So is fashion and lifestyle.

Lingerie, for example.
If it's better to wear oversized shorts to keep your stomach cool, that might be the case.

Comfort varies from person to person,
After all, I need "La Perla".

Arai As expected of Yumie Kazama! (smile)
I may not give up on that either. I want to choose what to wear with beautiful things and excitement. I don't think you need to think "because I'm already old..." at all.

Speaking of Kazama Tokimeki, "love" is also the same.
Of course, it's fine to enjoy romance normally, but recently, my friends have taken me in, and the belated Hallyu boom has arrived.

I've become completely obsessed with Korean Wave, which I thought I didn't like, and now only Park Seo Joon and BTS appear on Instagram's recommended reels! (smile)

AraiI understand (laughs), the Korean wave is really well done.
Like the Yon-sama boom in the old Winter Sonata, Hallyu stars must tickle female hormones.

Love, or rather, that kind of heart-pounding feeling is important.

As you get older, there is a sense of value that says, "Live a polite life and quietly reach your old age." That's nice.
But on the other hand, I aim to be "a healthy and beautiful self that is suitable for my age."

As you get older, you will have more and more things to take care of.
For example, my hair is less elastic than it used to be, so I have to go to the salon for regular treatments.

In the past, my nails were pink and healthy without doing anything, but now I can't keep my nails beautiful without proper nail care.

Compared to the past, the amount of care required has increased overwhelmingly, but we can face aging while enjoying the care itself.

For me, beauty and health are not a "fight" to rejuvenate my appearance, but I want to aim for myself to be age-appropriate and beautiful.

KazamaYes, it's important to be beautiful and satisfied.
Because it's nice to have someone who can take care of themselves properly, right?

It's the same with Miho-chan, but I think people who take care of themselves are doing the right thing and can be trusted.

AraiThose who take care of themselves, and as they age, experience and wisdom pile up on top of each other, and as a result, they grow deeper as human beings.

─The two of you are participating as special judges in the current contest. So, we asked them to talk about the theme of the contest, "what you want to be".

Kazama 's image of what he wants to be... I wonder if I want to live like a flower.
What I enjoy about flowers is how they bloom from the buds, are full of energy, and gradually lose moisture and wither while changing color and shape, all the way through to the end.
Actually, the end of the flower is very sexy.
The way it withers with age is also beautiful.
I want to live my life like that,
I want to be like that.

What I am conscious of for that is to be careful about what I eat and what I wear.
What people eat and wear is what makes them who they are. Just as the inside makes the outside, the outside makes the inside too.

For example, I want to wear silk clothes.
By wearing silk, I think that the smooth luster and glossy texture of silk will be input into the brain, and it will become a look that suits silk and a way of life.

AraiYeah, Yumie-chan has an image of silk. A woman who wears silk.
The image I want to be is "I want to be a part of nature".

I always tend to think of things in terms of the natural world.

There are many things in life, things that go well and things that don't, but if you think about everything in terms of the natural world, it's not a big deal.

In the natural world, even if a leaf grows on top, it always falls down and becomes a fallen leaf, and someone steps on it.

Blooming above, trampled below. Both are natural actions, but in the human world, hierarchical relationships and conflicts can arise.

But I want to accept all kinds of things as they are in nature, and live a cyclical way of life.
Surrender to nature and become one with it.
And I want to circulate good relationships.

Kazama I totally agree. I feel that more and more people around me are letting themselves go naturally.
More and more people are finding their own comfortable way of life.

AraiIn the past, I wanted to fight with a bare fighting spirit, win, and move forward.
But that's not the case, I think it's something I've realized as I've gotten older that I don't need to be more stubborn.

Don't try too hard and take care of yourself

AraiNowadays, we live in a convenient information society, but there are so many choices and temptations to choose from, and I think that many people get tired because of that.
The important thing is not to overdo it.

First of all, I will cherish facing myself with "myself first".

If so, you will inevitably start thinking about taking care of your health and enhancing your private life.

Kazama: “Self-love and taking care of yourself” is really important.
Taking care of yourself is something that will only come back to you if you take care of yourself.

Also, there are many people in our generation who are good at doing their best.
The sympathetic nerves always take precedence and work too hard.

I'm not good at loosening it, so it might be better to loosen it consciously.

AraiThat 's right. Don't try too hard and take care of yourself.
It's very important at our age.
