What does vitamin C feel like? “Immunity”, “Fatigue recovery/fatigue prevention” and “Skin effect” ranked high.
SUMMARY
- Realization of vitamin C intake. For both males and females, the top answers were "less catching a cold" and "recovering from fatigue, preventing fatigue". Feelings about "skin" are higher than women.
What is the actual feeling of vitamin C intake?
SPIC Co., Ltd. has designated April 4 as "Vitamin C Day" (CC Day) and conducted a questionnaire on vitamin C to commemorate this.
Of the 12,731 men and women surveyed nationwide, about 1,000 were extracted from those who answered that they had purchased, drank, or ate vitamin C-containing supplements or health foods in the past year. In addition, as a secondary survey, we conducted a questionnaire asking "what do you feel about taking vitamin C?"
As a result, about two-thirds of the respondents answered that they "felt something about taking vitamin C", and the most common answers for both men and women were "less catching a cold" and "fatigue recovery/fatigue prevention". As a result, the percentage of women who answered their feelings about “skin” increased.
Realization of vitamin C intake. For both men and women, “I am less likely to catch a cold” and “Recovery from fatigue, prevention of fatigue” are ranked high.
In the secondary survey (questionnaire), we were asked to answer from the following options about "what you realize by taking vitamin C."
□ Fatigue recovery, fatigue prevention
□ Less likely to catch a cold (improved immunity)
□ Whitening (sunburn prevention) effect
□ Spots and freckles have faded
□ Acne has healed/becomes less likely to occur
□ Skin condition is good
□ Anti-aging effect
□ Anemia improvement and anemia prevention
□ Improvement of atopy
□ Improvement of constipation
□ Hangover improvement
□ It became difficult to gain weight
□ Improvement of stress
□ Other
□ No particular effect has been felt
As a result of the questionnaire, the respondents as a whole said, "What do you realize by taking vitamin C?" “I am less likely to catch a cold (25.1%)”, “Fatigue recovery/fatigue prevention (19.4%)”, “Four answers regarding skin”*(16.5%)” was the top answer.
* Answers to 4 items regarding skin: 4 items: “whitening (sunburn prevention)”, “blemishes and freckles have become lighter”, “pimples have healed or become less likely to appear”, and “skin is in good condition”)
Among men, responses were concentrated on ``I'm less likely to catch a cold'' and ``Recovery from fatigue, prevention of fatigue''
When this question was reaggregated by gender, men answered that they were less likely to catch a cold (27.8%) and recovered from fatigue and prevented disease (26.7%).
* The total of the four items of “skin” was 9.5%
Feelings about “skin” rank higher among women
There was a tendency for the responses of women to be somewhat dispersed, and as with men, the results were that the answers were gathered for “I am less likely to catch a cold (23.0%)” and “Recovery from fatigue and disease prevention (13.6%)”. ” was 21.8%, a marked difference from men (9.5% for men).
* Responses to 4 items regarding skin: 4 items: “whitening (sunburn prevention)”, “spots and freckles have become lighter”, “pimples have healed or become less likely to appear”, and “skin is in good condition”)
In addition, as can be seen in the details of the chart below, female-specific responses (skin whitening (sunburn prevention), age spots/freckles, aging care, anemia improvement/anemia prevention) stand out compared to men, and this is the reason for the dispersion of responses. I'm here.
Of all the respondents, 70% had a real feeling and experience.
On the other hand, overall (32.7%), men (29.8%), and women (35.0%) also responded that they did not feel any particular effects.
What are the possible factors for the answer that you can not get a real feeling?
According to the questionnaire, about 70% of people feel that vitamin C intake is effective. This is because vitamin C is said to be "a nutrient that helps maintain the health of the skin and mucous membranes and has an antioxidant effect." I can understand the large number of answers such as "I'm less likely to catch a cold" and "Recover from fatigue" due to the antioxidant effect.
Conversely, the following hypotheses are conceivable as factors that make it difficult to get a real feeling.
・Insufficient or insufficient intake of vitamin C (problem of “quantity”)
・The intake method and timing are bad, and the intake efficiency is not good (problem of “method/efficiency”)
・There is a problem with the quality of the vitamin C you are taking (“quality” problem)
All of the above are considered to be important issues to get the real feeling of vitamin C.
How can we deliver the “real feeling of vitamin C”? SPIC will focus on this point and will continue to strive to establish and improve vitamin C and healthcare culture.
