AWAKENING vol.7 | For men's skin and hair concerns. Advice from a pro

SUMMARY

  1. ・What is age-specific care for men?
  2. ・Find the “beauty” that suits you
  3. ・I want to be a person with good “glossy skin” and “posture”
“AWAKENING” is a series of interviews in which professionals in various fields share their “awareness” from beauty and health.
In recent years, men's beauty and men's makeup have become major trends, and more and more men are interested in them. However, there must be many people who are troubled by "I don't know what to do..." or "I don't know what items to use...".
Therefore, this time, we asked Hayato Jinnai, a hair and makeup artist, about beauty methods mainly for men in their 30s and above.
Hayato Jinnai | Hair and makeup artist. In addition to salon work based in Kansai, she is active in a wide range of fields including magazines and advertisements. Her Instagram account, which introduces her particular lifestyle, is also very popular.

Changes occur in men in their 30s

─ Mr. Jinnai, who is involved in beauty as a hair and makeup artist, is also a big beauty lover. How do you see the recent men's beauty boom?
Jinnai |Is there a men's beauty boom in the last three to four years? That's amazing.Recently, even among male friends, I'm surprised that beauty talks are very common (laughs).
I think that many people in their 20s, who are younger than us, take hair removal as a matter of course and don't mind wearing makeup, but people in their 30s and 40s have never done anything beauty before. There weren't any, so I think there are many people who are worried, "What should I do?" I often receive consultations about beauty, and I am often asked, "What should I do at the very least?"
Speaking of men's worries, it is about "skin care".
What kind of skin care should I use and what items should I use? When you age there, it feels like stains, wrinkles, and sagging come in. Then there's the problem of hair. Is it getting thinner, more gray hairs, etc.? Men in their thirties start to see changes in their skin and hair, so more and more people are asking for advice on what to do not only with beauty, but also with food and lifestyle in general.

Let's stick to "water" and "face washing" for skin care

─I would like to ask Mr. Jinnai for advice on men's skin and hair. First of all, about "skin care" that is often worried.
Jinnai |When it comes to men's skin care, many people want "a moderately moisturizing state without being too sticky".
For such people, I recommend sticking to “water (lotion)”.
If you are particular about the ingredients, you can choose a lotion that contains retinol, and if you have sensitive skin, you can use a lotion that contains thermal water. Simply changing the water will calm the skin and often resolve the redness. As for the shape, "spray type lotion" is recommended. It's easy to spray after a bath, and it doesn't damage your skin.
Men's hands are rugged, so if you press the lotion with your hands like a woman, you'll rub it hard, which can actually damage your skin. In that respect, it is good if it is a spray because it spreads evenly on the face.
The next important thing is "face wash".
Even if you use a good lotion, it won't go deep unless you have a solid foundation to put it in.If the dirt clogged in the pores is not removed, the pores will become larger and larger, creating a vicious cycle.
There are many people who wear sunscreen these days, and there are also external influences such as viruses and PM2.5.If possible, it is better to wash your hands, gargle, and wash your face as soon as you get home.
However, I think that washing your face will be troublesome if there are many skin care steps after that, so after washing your face, you can quickly finish it with a spray or something handy. I think that will reduce the burden.

What is age-specific care for men?

─ According to Mr. Jinnai, skin care changes with age. I learned about age-appropriate care.
Jinnai |For young skin in their teens and twenties, I first tell them the importance of washing their face rather than cosmetics.
When you're young, excess sebum is secreted and pores are easily clogged, causing acne and blackheads on the nose. It is important to cut off the dirt that is the source of the clogging.
Young skin has a normal turnover rate, so even if you don't use good cosmetics, just be careful about washing your face and you'll have a normal cycle.
And after the age of 30, skin troubles increase. It depends on your budget, but I recommend adding one more item. In general men's skin care, lotion + milky lotion is used, so when adding one more item, creams and serums tend to be added.
However, I recommend using two lotions.
For example... The first one is a wiping lotion to tighten the skin. For the second one, choose one that contains beauty ingredients and can moisturize well.
──It is an image of choosing a lotion by purpose.
Of course, if you want to spend money on beauty, you can increase the number of creams, serums, and introduction liquids, but using two bottles of lotion first is likely to improve the condition of your skin. I think.

"Head spa" is effective for scalp care

─ Many people in their 30s and 40s have problems with their hair as well as their skin. How should I take care of it?
Jinnai |Men's hair and scalp worries are different for each person.
Some people suffer from dry hair and curly hair, thinning hair due to aging, loss of volume, increased gray hair, and even the smell of the scalp. There are all kinds of worries, but I think it's quick to do ′′ scalp care ′′ properly.
This is linked to the topic of washing your face earlier, but since the scalp and hair are connected, removing the dirt from the scalp, which is the foundation of the scalp, is also good for the hair. A normal scalp should have 3-4 hairs growing from each follicle. When it becomes clogged with sebum, only one hair grows from one hair root. This can lead to problems such as hair loss and thinning hair.
Jinnai |But for scalp care, you have to remove dirt from the hair roots, so it's a task you can't do yourself.
Therefore, we recommend “Head Spa”.
I also recently started taking care of my scalp, but now I go to a head spa once a month. If it is a head spa, you can lift the dirt with carbonic acid or use a machine to remove dirt from the hair roots that you cannot do by yourself.
After that, the blood flow will improve by having a scalp massage comfortably by human hands.
If you are a man, going to a head spa may be a high hurdle. If so, go to a hair salon with a head spa on the menu and try it as an option while cutting.
Or, at the turn of the season, try going even four times a year. I think that alone will improve the condition of the scalp.

You can ask a “professional” for beauty care

Jinnai |(To get a little off topic) For example, if a person were worried about blemishes on their skin and asked, "What kind of cosmetics would you recommend?"
At that time, I sometimes give advice such as, "Well, how about removing blemishes?   " But in this day and age, wouldn't it be nice to have many options for men's beauty? I personally think.   It's the same with stain removal and head spa, but if you can't do it yourself, I think "ask a professional" is one way to do it!

Let's find the "beauty" that suits you

Jinnai |I often receive various beauty consultations, but if I take a quick look and don't need to do it, I reply, "Isn't it fine as it is?"
Some people have beautiful skin to begin with. Even if you use a 100 yen lotion, you can keep your skin beautiful. I don't recommend expensive skin care to such people.   But even if the person's skin is OK, we may give advice on other parts, such as body shape or hair.
As you can see, beauty concerns vary from person to person. People who spend money on their skin, people who spend money on scalp care, or people who want to maintain their figure.   What I recommend is to decide on a beauty budget for one month and prioritize it.
If head spa is personally number 1, it's an ant to try it.

There is "health" to adjust the condition

Jinnai |For me, beauty and health are not so much for the future, but rather for "I want to be in good condition to enjoy the present."
What I am conscious of in my daily conditioning is a diet centered on vegetables and the quality of sleep. Later, I've been fasting lately. When I learned that actor Takumi Saito practices a 16-hour fast, I decided to try it myself. The first time you try it, your thoughts will be refreshed, and above all, your intestinal environment will be ready!
It's the same with fasting, but it's important to be in a state where you can perform well in your daily work. ─ In terms of daily conditions, Mr. Jinnai seems to have been drinking Lypo-C for many years. I asked him how he incorporates it into his lifestyle.
Jinnai |I like Lypo-C and have been taking it for about 5-6 years. I heard from a woman who is familiar with beauty, "There is a very bad vitamin C supplement. I wonder what it is. I want to drink! (laughs)
Originally, in terms of physical condition management, yogurt drink was a daily routine. However, my intestinal activity teacher told me that "dairy products are not good for my intestines", so I was worried about what to do, and then I came across Lypo-C.
I often fast or don't eat breakfast, so I use Lypo-C instead of breakfast at that time. Also, this portable shape is great! I like that I can have a quick drink on the go, even when I'm busy, such as early in the morning or when I'm on a business trip.

I want to be a person with good "glossy skin" and "posture"

─Mr. Jinnai enjoys beauty both at work and in her private life. He also talked about the ideal image he would like to have as he ages.
Jinnai:I'm 41 years old, but I don't think I want to look younger through beauty treatments.
I have come to realize that.
I have participated in gatherings of people on their 60th birthday before, and at that time, what I felt was "wonderful" was common to those who felt "glossy skin" and "beautiful posture". Even as you get older, glowing skin looks healthy and beautiful. And good posture to wear a suit. As I get older, I want to be conscious of these two things.
─Mr. Jinnai's Instagram attracts many users with his particular lifestyle. We asked him about the secret behind his style. * Jinnai-san's Instagram   Jinnai |What kind of moment do you feel when you suddenly lose your energy while looking at older people? There are times when I think.
When I was observing, I thought, ``Things that have been driven by curiosity and intuition until now are becoming apathetic and desensitized.'' That's why I want to be honest about what interests me now.
On Instagram, I'm sending out what I'm interested in now. If something catches my eye, I travel, go to shops, and meet people. I'm the type to do what I love. Also, I think it's important to "get on board" in any situation.
When you grow up, you become insensitive to new things and trends. Also, even if you are interested, you tend to feel embarrassed. I was like that when I was in my 20s and 30s, but after reaching my 40s, I began to challenge myself to get rid of my unwillingness to eat.
You don't know until you try something, right? Try riding anything. I think you can create your own style by repeating trial and error.
