A corner written by Yumiko Itakura, a travel and spa journalist who covers hotel spas around the world and continues to experience the roots of health and beauty in each region.

Each month, we focus on one region and unravel the “grandma's bag of wisdom”-like wellness methods rooted in that region from spa rituals, treatments, cultural experiences, and more.

Why don't you travel the world together while exploring the local health methods?
This time, it is about "Jetwing Lagoon" in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

A resort for adults where you can experience relaxation in harmony with nature

Close to Bandaranaike International Airport (commonly known as Colombo International Airport), Negombo is a laid-back beach resort beloved by Europeans. In 1965, the Jetwing Lagoon, located in a quiet area a little away from the city center, was the first hotel designed by the world-famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa as a master of tropical architecture.

After being closed for some time, the hotel reopened inJanuary 2012 after being renovated by Vinod Jayasinghe, a disciple of Bawa.
The major concept of Bawa architecture is the coexistence and fusion of nature and humans. The bathrooms in the guest rooms are built outdoors, allowing guests to enjoy the natural air and fragrance while enjoying a comfortable stay. Comfort is pursued.

A program led by one of Sri Lanka's most renowned doctors to help you relax both physically and mentally

Experience Sri Lanka's traditional medicine, Ayurveda, at the spa.
We use natural materials to eliminate toxins from the body, aim for root treatment through precise diet therapy, and heal the body, mind, and soul in an integrated manner.

It is said that King Vijaya, who came from India and ruled the country in the 3rd century BC, spread it to Sri Lanka. We incorporate Buddhism into these elements and develop our own Ayurveda.

Here, you can experience a program with a consultation (reservation required) by Dr. Dinesh Edilisinha, one of Sri Lanka's best doctors. A stay of at least two weeks is desirable for a full-fledged reset, but the effects can be felt with a stay of at least three nights.

A consultation is held on the first day, and the doctor considers the pulse, palpation, blood pressure, physical condition, medical history, lifestyle, etc., and furthermore, senses the "qi" emitted by the person, determines the constitution, and recommends the most suitable treatment and diet. ascertain.

Known as “Dr. CT scan”, Edili Singhacan grasp the physical condition, psychology and medical history of the guest just by examining the pulse, and provides accurate care and advice.
When I received his consultation for the first time, I was surprised to be able to guess my medical history and chronic illness.

At the retreat, the first thing that is emphasized is the detoxification of the digestive system. Eating is important because it is directly related to energy.

Over 15 Ayurvedic treatments
The optimal menu is selected from among them, and the oils, herbs, seeds, etc. to be used are mixed according to each person's constitution and disorder.
Then, soups made with the best ingredients for each person, a meal centered on vegetables, and prescribed supplements promote the discharge of stagnant undigested substances and stress in the mind and body.

The food is not only healthy, but also delicious and satisfying. The staff will explain the effects of each dish.
