Reset in harmony with nature while being watched over by the shining starry sky
A corner written by Yumiko Itakura, a travel and spa journalist who covers hotel spas around the world and continues to experience the roots of health and beauty in each region.
This year, each month, we will focus on one region in Japan and unravel the wellness methods rooted in that region, such as “grandma's bag of wisdom” from hot springs, spa treatments, cultural experiences, and more.
Why don't you travel Japan together while exploring the local health methods, healing, and nutritious foods?
This time, we will talk about "Izu Hotel Resort & Spa" in Izu Atagawa, Shizuoka Prefecture.
A scenic resort that connects you to the heavens while enjoying the pleasant breeze
Higashi-Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, is blessed with a warm climate throughout the year, and you can feel close to the deep blue sea and mountains rich in nature. Among them, "Izu Hotel Resort & Spa", which opened in June 2020, is a hotel in the best location overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Izu Islands from the hilltop of Izu Atagawa Kogen.
A total of 26 rooms are equipped with open-air hot spring baths with an ocean view, and are spacious with a size of 46 to 80 square meters.
In addition to the guest rooms, there are places on the premises where you can enjoy the superb view, such as the lobby, Aqua Bridge, and resort rooms, so before you know it, you'll feel a sense of openness.
The view from the open-air hot spring bath is especially spectacular! The water is 125 meters deep, so you can bathe up to your chest if you stand up and up to your shoulders if you sit on a bench. The hot water is a weakly alkaline sodium-chloride-sulfate spring. The skin-beautifying hot spring containing a large amount of metasilicic acid warms the body from the core.
Dinner is at "Dining & Bar WAVE". The Mediterranean-style cuisine, which uses plenty of local vegetables, mainly seafood caught in Sagami Bay and Suruga Bay, will bring comfort to your stomach.
A revival treatment based on the concept of the five elements x 12 constellations
When you look up at the sky at night, you can see amazing stars around the time of the new moon, and moon roads on the sea surface around the time of the full moon. At the spa, we recommend experiencing the signature menu "Starry Sky Journey", which was inspired by such a mysterious starry sky. In the East, there is a deep-rooted belief that all things in nature are made up of the elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. And the "12 constellations" created by observing nature are linked to each element. Here, we use products from the British high-performance aromatherapy brand "elemental herbology" that reflects that concept.
First, you will be offered 3 oils from the five elements that are linked to your zodiac sign, and you can choose the scent you want. The oil is used for treatments.
First, enjoy the starry sky image on the wall while experiencing the foot bath. Go to bed when you've calmed down.
A relaxing long stroke full body oil massage is performed. Next, warmed oil is poured onto the center of the forehead, the 'third eye', and the 'Shirodhara Head' is performed, where the entire head is massaged. Relax deeply by stopping your thoughts along with the comfort. After the treatment, you should feel refreshed in body and mind.
summary
If you live in the city or lead a busy life, you will have fewer opportunities to take your time and look at the stars and the moon. Since ancient times, women, in particular, have maintained their physical and mental health by responding to the phases of the moon and the changes in nature, so they need time to look at the night sky. May is also a time when people tend to become introverted, having difficulty adapting to their new lives. If you find yourself on the verge of becoming negative, how about opening your mind under the dazzling starry sky of Higashi-Izu and balancing your mind and body?
